The DeKalb Lady Tigers placed second in the PVI tournament on December 1.

The Lady Tigers made it to the championship game after beating Osborn 33-28 during the second round and West Nodaway in the first. The Lady Tigers played the championship game at Northwest Missouri State University. The ladies lost 37-14 against Northeast Nodaway.

Head Girls Basketball Coach Kyle Knox said the girls worked hard during the week with practices and the games in the first few rounds in preparation for the championship game.

“I think we had a good week and good practices with the Osborn game,” Knox said.

The majority of the tournament was held here at DeKalb, but the championship game was held on a different court. Many of the ladies felt that playing at Northwest was very different than playing at DeKalb.

“One of the main differences is that the court is bigger,” senior Morgan Parsons said.

While the boys basketball team did not make it to Northwest, they still placed fifth in the tournament after beating Stewartsville 37-34. It was a rough start for the team losing to Northeast Nodaway in the first round of the tournament, but they came back and beat Union Star in the second.

“We improved a lot from the first game to the last game,” junior Josh Bomberger said.
