With spring fast approaching the bats and gloves are ready. The DeKalb Tigers Baseball Team is preparing for its second year since the district decided to bring back the sport last year.

Last year the Tigers finished 1-16 but saw signs of improvement throughout the first season of baseball.

This year the Tigers have 17 players coming out to play. Head Coach Aaron Matthews thinks this year will show growth.

“After just playing our first year, we were understanding how to play,” Matthews said. “This year we are getting that experience on the field.”

Senior Kristian Derry cannot wait to get out on the field and play third base again this year.

“I’m excited to play,” Derry said. “I just hope we can come together as a team and get some wins.”

Junior Josh Bomberger is also ready to get out on the field.

“Last year was a lot of fun,” Bomberger said. “As catcher I can yell at people when they mess up on the field.”

The first game of the year is on March 19, 2018, at 4:30 against the South Harrison Bulldogs.
